THE RETURN OF VICE/VERSA
Below are some classic VICE/VERSA flyers. VICE/VERSA came hot on the heels of Electroluxe,
a club night I created with then-partner Lester Dizon. Electroluxe brought the world of
Electro(clash) – and Tiga, Princess Superstar, Tommie Sunshine, Larry Tee, Avenue D (and many other
live performances and dj sets) – to San Diego – and Rich’s – back in, what, 2001? 2002?
When we put Electroluxe to rest, I started up VICE/VERSA with Lee Reynolds aka
Dr. Indulgent. VICE/VERSA was held at the venue now known as San Diego’s Beauty Bar. All of the
flyers were created by Lee and myself. We also DJed the VICE/VERSA events together.
We were going for a sort of subversive, surrealist, low-res look with the imagery.
I’ve always been a sucker for a good, cheap black-and-white flyer. I hadn’t seen or thought
about these flyers in a long while, but I think many of them still look great, especially 12-26-03,
11-12-04, and 02-13-04. Obviously Lester Dizon’s amazing Electroluxe flyers had a
lasting effect on me and I think his influence resonates in these images.
It’s hard to believe these events happened so long ago!
