Everything old is new again
After digging through boxes of old vinyl to pull music for Dr. Freecloud’s 15 Year Anniversary event, and after hearing recent DJ mixes from Levon Vincent (download his Resident Advisor mix here) and Runaway (hear the first 30 minutes of their mix for KCRW here) I got inspired to make a Deep Chicago / Detroit / House / Techno / Old School mix. For whatever reason I figured the timing was right, what with all the recent interest in classic house sounds, both old and new (Radio Slave’s Cabin Fever series, Brothers Vibe, Omar-S, Tevo Howard, Luna City Express, JC Freaks, Jus-Ed, to name a few). This 80 minute mix was recorded and edited from my records. I enjoyed making it so much I may do more like this in the near future.

Sunday, December 13th – Dr. Freecloud’s 15 Year Anniversary
Wow, has it really been 15 years? I didn’t do much shopping at Dr. Freecloud’s as it’s always been in Orange County; although I liked to hunt for records, that was always a little out of my area. I do remember selling Dr. Freecloud’s several boxes (double copies – I still own most of my original records) of techno, rave and breaks classics, all hand-stamped “PROPERTY BARRY WEAVER” maybe 13 or 14 years ago. I wonder who bought those records…
Sunday, December 13th, I’ll be playing an all-vinyl set for my friends Ron and Helen at the 15th anniversary of their store, Dr. Freecloud’s Record Shoppe. Event info can be found here. I’m DJing from 5:45 to 6:30pm. DJ Dan will be playing 6:30-7:15pm. Ron is closing out the party from 7:15 until 8:00pm. This will be a fun event, and it’s free! I’m not sure what I’ll play, but I’m leaning toward an old school classic/acid house set. Come by, say hello, and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL RECORD STORE!
